Ladeira da Nora (meaning “the slope to the well”) is a unique villa, built in a style that is sympathetic to local Portuguese architecture with ancient Moorish influences.
This charming house was built in 1972 as a family home and is filled with character. Through the 18th century carved front doors, lies a north African inspired hallway with a domed ceiling. The centre piece of the open plan living room, is a coffee table made from an old water wheel from a disused local well. The kitchen stands out with its traditional artisan tiles and two large copper sinks. Terracotta floors and white walls are complemented by furniture and art from all over the world reflecting the family’s well-travelled international background.
The expansive ground floor is spacious and free flowing, with glass doors opening up the house to the gardens. Every room, including the bedrooms has its own terrace or balcony with fabulous views across the Alvor river estuary towards the Monchique hills. At any point in the day, you can find sun or shade. The layout of the house is also designed with a sense of fun and adventure and there are a number ‘secret’ passages and stairwells that interconnect the house. Every bedroom has its own character and ensuite bathroom decorated with tiles of distinctive colours and designs.

The large pool is so inviting that you will find that most of your days are spent enjoying the sun and the warmth of the Algarve there. There are comfortable sunbeds and a shaded lounge area with a barbecue for long and relaxed lunches by the pool.
The extensive 7-acre garden offers lawns, shrubs and flowerbeds around the house. Further afield, there are orange and lemon groves, and fig and almond trees on terraces down the garden. A favourite pastime is to take the children in the morning down the garden to pick lemons and oranges to make juice for the day.
